.hack GU Rebirth is set in a fictional virtual reality called the NerveGear, where players log on to experience and interact with each other's dreams. The story follows Kite, a former member of an elite group known as the "Knights of the Blood Oath", who seeks revenge against the creator of the NerveGear, who he believes wronged him.
Gameplay involves exploring various worlds within the NerveGear, battling enemies and completing quests to uncover the truth about Kite's past. Players can form bonds with other characters, known as "Link Alliances", which grant access to new areas and abilities.
.hack GU Rebirth features a unique gameplay mechanic called "Rebirth", where players can reincarnate themselves in a previous game world, allowing for multiple playthroughs and increased replay value. The game also includes an online multiplayer component, enabling players to interact with each other's avatars.
.hack GU Rebirth was released on the PlayStation 2 console on October 24th, 2006.
