Oystron is an early homebrew game for the Atari 2600, originally designed as a multi-sprite demo. The player controls a ship that can move freely around the screen and face both directions. Enemies called "space oysters" appear from the right and must be shot to convert them into pearls that need to be collected before they leave the screen on the left side.
The game tracks the score and a meter is filled at the bottom of the screen showing progress. The player has four lives, with an extra one provided for every 4,000 points. Collecting pearls also gives access to a "pearl zone" on the left side of the screen, where they can be stored. However, enemies can still steal them when they pass.
As the game progresses, a meter fills up at the bottom of the screen showing progress. When it reaches certain points, bombs are provided for clearing rows of eight pearls. The game also features Oystron bosses that appear at the end of levels. These bosses must be defeated by placing a bomb in their path to avoid being hit. The player's ship then enters a warp phase, moving quickly and avoiding enemy collisions.
