About

Meryl Silverburgh is a prominent ally to protagonist Solid Snake during the Shadow Moses incident in Metal Gear Solid (1998). She is depicted as the daughter (initially introduced as the niece) of Colonel Roy Campbell. Her character also appears in related franchise media, including Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and various promotional demo discs.
Designed by Yoji Shinkawa, her visual design and narrative role evolved from an earlier character in Hideo Kojima's Policenauts. Within the Metal Gear Solid franchise, her presence extended beyond the main game into various promotional and peripheral releases. She featured prominently in marketing materials, such as the Metal Gear Solid SharkByte Memory Card (1998) packaging and the Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions Demo CD (1999).
Her likeness and association with the franchise also appeared on third-party hardware, including the Naki Ultimate SpiderMan Venom Wired Controller (2001) and the Naki Marvel Ultimate SpiderMan Venom Wired Controller 99507 (2001) promotional materials, which highlighted key characters from contemporary PlayStation hits. Additionally, playable sequences and cinematic files featuring her were included on the Metal Gear Solid Demo CD (2002). Throughout these releases, her character represents the transition of the franchise into cinematic 3D storytelling, serving as a key emotional anchor in the narrative and a recurring icon in early 2000s gaming merchandise.
