Established in 1990 as a joint venture between Bandai and Banpresto, the developer specialized in translating high-profile Japanese media franchises into interactive formats. Operating primarily as a key development house for Bandai, the studio focused on genre-diverse adaptations that captured the specific mechanics of their source materials. For tokusatsu and anime properties, this meant designing fighting games and tactical simulations that replicated the scale of giant monster battles and mecha combat.

Within the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, the studio pioneered 3D polygonal combat and strategic gameplay, helping transition the series from 2D sprites to immersive tactical simulations on fifth-generation consoles and beyond. Their work on the Digimon World series expanded the digital pet concept into fully realized role-playing games, establishing core mechanics like monster raising, training, and real-time battle systems that defined the franchise's identity. In 2011, the company merged with Banpresto's video game division to form B.B. Studio, consolidating Bandai Namco's development of licensed strategy and simulation titles.
