Cryo Interactive Entertainment was a French studio renowned for its early adoption of CD-ROM technology and pre-rendered 3D graphics. The developer created the landmark adventure game Dune (1992) and established popular 1990s franchises with the futuristic racing game MegaRace and the fantasy adventure Dragon Lore. They also published and distributed titles in Europe, including Super Dany and the horror game D.
Formed by former ERE Informatique members, the studio secured the rights for
Dune (1992). This adaptation combined strategy with adventure elements, later ported to the Sega CD as
Dune (1993) and
Dune (1994) for different regional markets.
The studio's proprietary graphics engines powered
MegaRace (1993), a combat racer that expanded to consoles as
MegaRace (1994). This title, alongside the fantasy-themed
Dragon Lore (1994), defined the company's signature style of combining pre-rendered cinematic backdrops with interactive gameplay. Beyond internal development, the company published the platformer
Super Dany (1994) and secured European distribution for the horror adventure
D (1995). Despite these high-profile releases, escalating development costs and a shifting market led to severe financial decline, culminating in liquidation in 2002. The brand's intellectual properties, including the
MegaRace and
Dragon Lore franchises, were subsequently acquired by Microïds.
