About

Founded in Stourbridge, England, the company initially developed titles for various home computers and consoles, including ports of licensed game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. They are also known for co-developing the 1994 fighting game Rise of the Robots. In their later years, they became prolific for releasing budget titles, particularly for the Nintendo Wii.
Under the leadership of founder Stewart Green, the studio expanded its operations in the late 1990s by securing high-profile intellectual properties. A major milestone was the development of the 3D construction simulation game Legoland in 2000, published by Lego Media. They also developed Beast Wars: Transformers in 1997 for Hasbro Interactive, showcasing their transition into 3D action game development.
To control their distribution pipeline, the company established parent company Green Solutions Ltd and created the publishing label Popcorn Arcade. This infrastructure allowed them to rapidly produce and self-publish software. Many of these releases utilized a standardized game engine, resulting in several titles sharing identical gameplay mechanics and level layouts under different thematic skins, such as Ninjabread Man, Anubis II, and Myth Makers: Trixie in Toyland.
Despite achieving high volume distribution through partnerships with major retail chains, the studio faced severe critical backlash for the repetitive nature and technical limitations of its library. Data Design Interactive ceased development operations and was formally dissolved in 2012, leaving a legacy closely tied to the era of mass-market retail software.
