Founded in 1997 as Illusion Softworks, the company established itself with tactical shooters and narrative-driven action games. It was acquired by Take-Two Interactive in 2008 and rebranded as 2K Czech. In 2017, the studio was merged into Hangar 13.
Beyond its primary development pipelines, the company engaged in regional distribution and publishing partnerships, bringing diverse international titles to localized markets. Early software distribution efforts included the first print of
Rayman in 1995 and sports management titles such as
Guy Roux Football Manager Saison 97/98 and
Guy Roux Manager 2000. The company also handled regional releases of niche titles like
Weekend Miljonairs and
Max Surfing 2000, alongside racing simulations like
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2.
Additionally, the studio's portfolio associated with specialized promotional and regional editions, including the promotional "not for resale" release of
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow and
Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood [Not For Resale]. These projects allowed the company to build a robust local distribution network in Central Europe during the late 1990s and early 2000s, establishing a commercial footprint that supported its transition into a major global development studio.
