NanoSeikatsu: ULTIMATE SHOOTING plays similarly to Moss's other character-based vertical shooting games, such as Caladrius . Each of the ten different playable characters features a unique playstyle and shot pattern. New to this game is a new "burst" mode. Players build up their burst meter over time, and are able to keep up to three stocks. Each character has a set of unique special moves which consume varying levels of burst meter, leading to each character having very distinct playstyles.
The 15-stage main story mode is similar to Sky Stage 's branching story mode, but features a few new stages in addition to stages returning from the previous game. Players can also play a straight port of Sky Stage with its original six characters. Sky Stage 's multiplayer minigames also return unaltered. A new challenge mode gives players specific sets of tasks to complete, with rewards for filling them out. Additionally, there is a new museum mode that lets players read about all of the included characters, look at concept artwork, and listen to music.
