This is a tactical stealth game where players command a squad of WWII special forces through missions with diverse objectives. Success hinges on completing main and secondary goals, minimizing detection and casualties, and strategically neutralizing enemies to earn points and advance rank.
Story
The Missions
In COMMANDOS 2: MEN OF COURAGE™, you will guide your men through a series of missions inspired by WWII events. These missions offer diverse objectives, new challenges, and multiple strategic approaches.
Each mission has at least one main objective, such as rescue, espionage, assault, or defense. Missions also include sub-objectives and clues to help you achieve your goal. Failure to complete objectives or losing team members will require you to restart.
While creating COMMANDOS 2: MEN OF COURAGE™, our aim was an enjoyable game beyond a faithful depiction of WWII Commandos activity. If game events contradict your history book, please trust your history book.
Your Career in the Army
Army life is challenging. To succeed, you must complete objectives presented before and during each mission. Completing a mission allows you to advance to the next.
Mission Score
Upon successfully finishing a mission, you are awarded points based on your degree of success. Points are calculated from:

Secondary objectives accomplished
•
Time taken to finish
•
Damage received
•
Not being detected
•
Visiting different areas of the map
•
Number of enemies neutralized
You receive maximum points for tying up enemies, fewer for knife kills, and the fewest for firearm kills.
As you progress, your accumulated points will increase your rank. You begin at the lowest rank. By the end of the war, successful mission completion and exemplary behavior could earn you the rank of Field Marshal. Your honor, career, and pension depend on your effectiveness.

Set up your PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system according to the instructions in its Instruction Manual. Make sure the MAIN POWER switch (located on the back of the console) is turned on. Press the RESET button.
When the power indicator lights up, press the open button and the disc tray will open. Place the COMMANDOS 2: MEN OF COURAGE™ disc on the disc tray with the label side facing up. Press the open button again and the disc tray will close.
Attach game controllers and other peripherals, as appropriate. Follow on-screen instructions and refer to this manual for information on using the software.
SETTING UP
SELECT YOUR PLAYER NAME AND THE MISSION
When you start COMMANDOS 2: MEN OF COURAGE™ for the first time, you must create a player identity and assign it a name. As this will be your first encounter you will only be granted access to the training missions. As your experience increases, you will be allowed to risk the Commandos and take on further missions.
Each new player you create will start from scratch, with no experience, and you will have to train him from the beginning.
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY
Mission objectives of a particular mission will not change even if the difficulty level is altered. The differences you will experience will be in the behavior of your enemies and the supply of tools and provisions.
For example, in Normal difficulty mode the enemy will be less likely to leap into action and will take more time recognizing and shooting at you than in the Hard and Very Hard difficulty modes.
Normal Mode
In Normal mode your firearms have the longest range and shoot extremely fast. Enemies are more relaxed and their reaction times far longer, giving you a larger margin of error.
If a Commando's health level drops to zero, you can bring him back from the brink of death by using any of the multiple first-aid kits that you will find. There is no shortage of ammo and items. Grenades and explosives have a larger damage radius.
Hard Mode
In Hard mode you will encounter more enemies, the range and speed of your firearms is decreased and the enemy's reaction time is faster. Enemy firearms are more deadly. When one of your men dies, there is no way to bring him back.
Very Hard Mode
In Very Hard mode, enemies react as soon as they see you, the range of their guns is the longest and their shots the deadliest. First-aid kits and ammunition are in very short supply. Success could rely on a single bullet, so ammunition must be used wisely.
Just in case this wasn't enough, enemies recover from being knocked out by Commandos far faster. Wine also affects them for a shorter period of time.
TUTORIALS
A number of tutorials are designed to aid you in completing your task. It is recommended that you try some of these before playing the game.
THE GAME
This section contains information regarding the core areas of COMMANDOS 2: MEN OF COURAGE™. You will receive information about your men, the weapons you will use throughout the missions and various tactics that will help you accomplish your objectives. Reading them does not guarantee your success, but will help you recognize your options, rate the enemy's chances and anticipate the different perils that you will have to face.
ASSIGNMENT OF OBJECTIVES
At the beginning of each mission you will receive brief instructions on what is expected from you and your men. You will be given information in the following areas:

The overall strategic situation
•
The main mission objectives
•
A tour of the environment, at which point you will see where objectives can be completed and the position of key areas. You'll also receive advice on the tactics you should employ.
If you would rather skip the briefing, press the START button at any point to start the mission. If you need to check any of the objectives while in a mission, you can use the Notebook in the Interface.
INDIVIDUAL SELECTION
To give your Commandos orders you must first select them. Press the button, and then press the directional button or to highlight the target character.
Press the button to select that man. The highlighted character will face the screen. An outline will appear around that Commando and his interface will appear. If your view of the Commando is obscured by a building, tree or wall, rotate the map to bring the character into view.
To select more than one Commando, tap the button and press the directional button or to highlight the other characters you want to select. Once each one is highlighted, press the button to add him to the group. Once all the characters are chosen, tap the button to select. All selected Commandos will then follow the first Commando when you move the left analog stick.
INTERFACE
The Interface is your command center. From here you control the game and give your men the necessary orders to complete the mission.
ABILITIES
Abilities are divided into two main modes. The first is Offensive mode and the second is Interaction mode.
OFFENSIVE MODE
When you move the selected Commando in Offensive mode, other characters and enemies are highlighted automatically by a target icon when in line of sight. The item currently selected in the Offensive mode box can be used against enemies by pressing the button.
Offensive Objects are items you can use against the enemy either for distraction or attack. Also contained are items that can aid your Commandos or Allies, such as

Enemies & Characters
JERRY MCHALE "TINY" (GREEN BERET)
The biggest member of the group, he possesses tremendous strength for fighting, knocking out, and tying enemies quickly. He is also the second fastest runner and can withstand flesh wounds and gunshots.
RENE DUCHAMP "SPOOKY" (SPY)
Fluent in several languages and a master of imitation, he infiltrates enemy lines in stolen uniforms to divert or deceive soldiers. His preferred weapon is a syringe with lethal poison for silent elimination.
THOMAS HANCOCK "INFERNO" (SAPPER)
An expert in calculating, placing, and developing explosives, he can also operate grenades, bazookas, flame-throwers, and mine detectors. He can detect, deactivate, and form minefields.
JAMES BLACKWOOD "FINS" (DIVER)
A specialist in aquatic missions with a harpoon gun and diving equipment, he also has complete mastery of throwing knives on land. He uses a grappling hook to silently climb structures.
SID PERKINS "TREAD" (DRIVER)
He enjoys fighting the enemy and can drive all types of vehicles. His tools of choice include gas bombs, smoke bombs, hunting traps, and cable for making traps.
SIR FRANCIS T. WOOLRIDGE "DUKE" (SNIPER)
Known for his cool temperament and self-control, he is considered one of the best snipers in the world. His missions involve clearing paths and eliminating concealed enemies while providing cover.
NATASHA NIKOCHEVSKI "THE SEDUCTRESS" (RESISTANCE OPERATIVE)
She speaks several languages and uses intoxicating conversation, appropriate costumes, and lipstick to distract enemies. She is also a remarkably good sniper and assists the Commandos when necessary.
PAUL TOLEDO "LUPIN" (THIEF)
The smallest and fastest Commando, he uses his agility to access small areas, break into houses, climb poles, and pick locks. He has mastered martial arts, enjoys picking pockets, and can open doors and safes.
WHISKEY
A trained dog that diverts enemies by barking and running, he can carry small objects between Commandos and detect mines with his keen sense of smell.

Allied characters who will help you divert your enemy in certain missions.

An exceptional prisoner who will help you divert your enemy in certain missions.

A shipwrecked sailor on a not-so-abandoned island who will help you divert your enemy in certain missions.
German soldiers
Enemies whose behavior is similar to Japanese soldiers, and whose weak points can be exploited.
Japanese soldiers
Enemies whose behavior is similar to German soldiers, and whose weak points can be exploited.

The lowest rank of enemy, who will accept the Spy's orders more easily when he is disguised.
corporals
A middle rank of enemy, who are less likely to accept the Spy's orders than lower-ranked soldiers.
officers
The highest rank of enemy, who can always recognize the Spy and Natasha in their short range of vision, even when disguised.
SS officers
A specific type of officer who can recognize the Spy and Natasha as soon as they see them, even when disguised.
Corporals and officers
These enemies use their regulation pistols.
Workers, executives and sailors
These enemies are dressed as civilians and do not carry weapons but can defend themselves with their bare hands and sound the alarm.
Mechanics
Some mechanics wear flame-proof suits and are resistant to flame-throwers, but not to guns.
Elite snipers
These enemies use precision rifles at long distances and pistols at close range, and can spot your men from far away.
German grenadier
These enemies can throw grenades when outside and through windows, which can kill all your Commandos in the same room.
Divers
These enemies are encountered underwater and use harpoon guns with limited range but can be very dangerous.
Lookout positions
Enemies in these positions can be equipped with binoculars, spotting you from a great distance and advising enemy guns to shoot.
Heavy machine guns
These are posts guarding strategic areas, which can be turned against your enemies if you take control of them.
Patrols
These consist of several soldiers commanded by an officer, making vigilant rounds, escorting other enemies, and can arrest your men.
Items & Weapons
Lockpicks
The Thief can use lockpicks to open metallic ammo boxes and many doors. To open doors from the inside, he must first enter the house.
First-aid kit
First-aid kits contain several doses that can be applied to Commandos or Allied comrades to regenerate their health.
Sneaking behind enemies
The Thief can sneak behind enemies to look inside their backpacks without being noticed, moving at the same speed as the enemy.
Blowtorch
Both the Sapper and Driver can use the blowtorch to build and fix things, open metal doors, and even as a weapon.
Sleeping pills
Sleeping pills can be used with wine or meat to make enemies fall asleep until the end of the mission or until a fellow soldier wakes them.
Lipstick
Natasha uses her lipstick to distract enemies, momentarily blinding them with her beauty.
Hit, tie and gag
Some men can hit and daze enemies, then tie and gag them to take contents from their backpacks, though Natasha and the Thief cannot perform this action.
Knife
The Green Beret uses a Fairburn assault knife for mortal wounds, while the Diver prefers to throw it at victims.
PIAT rocket launcher
This light and powerful weapon is used by the Sapper to fight armored troops, with its ammunition being a separate part.
Gas grenade
The Driver uses this non-lethal bomb to create a thick cloud of gas that dazes all enemies in an area without affecting Allied soldiers.
Rifle
Allied forces use Lee-Enfield n°4 MKI rifles with unlimited ammunition, and Commandos can steal Karabiner 98K rifles from enemies, which have limited ammunition.
Sniper rifle
Your men use M1903, 30 Springfields with unlimited ammunition, and Gewehr 98 rifles can be obtained from enemies, usable only by Natasha and Duke.
Hand grenade
The Sapper throws this number 36 M, Mk1 Mills bomb through doors, trap doors, and windows; it is a handy but extremely noisy weapon.
Syringe
The Spy's syringe can daze with one dose, render senseless with two, and kill with three doses injected into victims.
Bottle
Natasha can break a bottle on an enemy's head as a weapon if it aids the mission's completion.
Harpoon gun
A very important weapon for the Diver, without which he would be unable to defend himself and others from sharks, crocodiles, and enemy divers.
Molotov cocktail
This explosive cocktail, made from gasoline and a spark, can kill several enemies at once.
Tips & Maps
SAVING YOUR GAME
Insert a memory card, then press START during a game to access the Options menu. Highlight SAVE GAME, tap the button, and select a slot to save to. Do not switch off or reset your console while saving to avoid data loss or corruption.
LOADING A SAVED GAME
Ensure a memory card with saved data is inserted. Use the directional buttons to select the game you want to load and press the button.
