Metal Slug 3 is back and ready for action. General Morden returns with a new plan for world domination, and it's up to you to stop him. You can choose from four heroes - Marco, Tarma, Eri, or Fio - as they navigate side-scrolling levels filled with enemies and bosses. Your mission is to free hostages and ride some pretty unusual vehicles.
The game offers a variety of gameplay modes, including five arcade stages that can be completed for unlocking additional game modes such as Storming the Mothership and Chubby Isle Paradiso on the Neo Geo AES console. A co-op mode is also included, allowing you to team up with friends, but sadly no online multiplayer. You can compete with other players to achieve the best scores in single-player mode.

This is a military sci-fi game where players delve into a post-war world rife with political intrigue and hidden threats. You'll likely play as members of an intelligence department, investigating strange incidents and uncovering a conspiracy dismissed by the regular army. The game explores themes of power, prejudice, and the search for truth in a society eager to forget its past.
Story
Morden Army Remnants
Humanity did not learn from the Morden Wars. They pursued and annihilated the Morden Army remnants with the same "logic of power" as before the war, without investigating the coup d'état.
The Falcons, heroes of the great war, are the main force behind the hunt for remnants. Citizens applaud the Falcons for eradicating the Morden Army, believing all responsibility lies with Devil Rebirth Morden.
However, some soldiers who experienced the regular army's corruption feel discomfort and jealousy towards the Falcons. Marco, consumed by hatred for Morden, is unaware, but Tarma vaguely senses it.
Sparrows
The Sparrows' reputation did not rise significantly despite their contributions in the previous war. This was partly due to Marco and Tarma's low recognition.
The closed nature of the intelligence department was also a major factor. The regular army's high command, frankly speaking, makes fools of them.
Investigation of Strange Incidents
During the two Morden Wars, numerous witnesses, testimonies, and evidence suggested the existence of "non-human intelligence." The regular army's high command dismissed these as "absurd theories" and "products of panic in extreme situations."
Only the intelligence department is seriously pursuing the truth. This has further deepened the rift between the regular army's high command and the intelligence department.
Tips & Maps
Memory Card Backup
You can easily back up your progress data using a separately sold memory card. Insert the memory card securely into the Neo Geo console and perform game saves and loads.
Load (Data Recall) Method
If the memory card is correctly set, the “Load Selection Screen” will be displayed before the game starts. Select “YES” with the lever and press the A button to continue playing from the previous save.
Save (Data Recording) Method
If the memory card is correctly set, the “Save Selection Screen” will be displayed after the game is over. Select “YES” with the lever and press the A button to record your progress data up to that point.
About Card Formatting (Initialization)
New memory cards are not formatted. Format them by setting the Neo Geo cassette and memory card, then simultaneously pressing A~D buttons on the 1P controller and the reset button on the Neo Geo console. On the “Data Screen,” select “Format Card” with the lever and press the A button to complete.

How to Play
Title Screen Commands
When you press the Start button on the 1P or 2P controller from the title screen, you can access the following commands.

[GAME START]
Start the game. If save data exists, you can select any stage up to the last cleared stage.

[HOW TO PLAY]
A demo of the operation instructions will play.
•
[OPTION]
Move the cursor to this item and press the A button (or move the lever to the right) to switch to the option screen. Here you can change various settings.

Change settings by selecting an item and pressing the A button (or moving the lever to the right).

[HERO]
Set the number of remaining players.
•
[DIFF]
Set the game difficulty.
•
[1P KEY CONFIG]
Set button assignments for the 1P controller.

"VULCAN FIX"
If "VULCAN FIX" is set to ON in 1P KEY CONFIG (or 2P KEY CONFIG), the shot direction will be fixed while the shot button is pressed.
How to Start the Game
About Continue & Mid-game Participation
If you have credits remaining, you can continue even if all players are out. Press the start button before the continue count on the screen reaches 0.
If both 1P and 2P controllers are connected, mid-game participation is possible. Press the start button on the unused controller to join the game.

You can board vehicles marked with "IN" by approaching them and pressing the jump button.
Vehicle appearance methods vary. They may be simply placed on the stage, or they might only appear after destroying something nearby or interacting with XXX.

Thunder Cloud
Small meteorological weapon. Fires lightning bolts over the heads of enemies.

An ultra-small attack satellite. Attacks enemies from above.
