Karnov's Revenge is a 2-D Street Fighter II clone from Data East. Choose one of 13 fighters from around the world to play as, each with their unique moves and special attacks. As usual, there are two rounds in each stage, and the object of each round is to drain your opponent's energy in order to win the battle. If there is a tie after two rounds, a third round is played. There is a time limit, and if this expires, the player with the less energy loses.

This is a fighting game where players choose from 13 unique fighters to compete in an underground tournament called "Great Grapple." The goal is to defeat the mysterious sponsor, Mr. K, and other opponents to achieve victory and avenge past losses. Players will engage in one-on-one combat, utilizing various attacks and discovering hidden super moves.
Story
Notice: Holding of Great Grapple
Great Grapple of this year is going to be held soon. Maybe, this will be the last competition.
Last year, I dropped the match... but, I will not let that happen again. The humiliation will be returned to all of you this time!
You fighters, I am very much looking forward to your participation.
P.S. This time, you will see a few special unknown guests. Let's hope to fight them!
The invitation letter from Fighter K, the strongest man, has put a flame of fighting spirit on the hearts of fighters of the last competition. The history of battle is now moving towards its new stage.

Proud and Splendid 13 FIGHTERS
"Great Grapple"..... the mysterious fighter, Mr.K, sponsored an underground match to win the greatest fighter in the world again. After being defeated decisively in previous battles, Mr.K has been burning the flame of humiliation.
For revenge, Mr.K has sent them invitation and 9 fighters in the last match and 2 new participants gather here. Their one year's hard training will surely give much excitement to the mysterious fight with Mr.K.
Now they are about to plunge into the flame of battle.

Enemies & Characters
KARNOV
Boss of all bosses. He can use Fire ball, Firebreath, Rapid-fire Kicks, and Balloon Attack.
YUNG MIE
Tae Kwon Do master. She can use Aora Smash and Neri Chagi.
CLOWN
Evil circus ring leader. He can use Pick-A-Card, Head Stamp, Spin Attack, and Spin Drop.
ZAZIE
Safari ranger and karate master. He can use Balukan Hook, Hellfire, Ducking, and Step Back.
RAY MCDOGALL
A police detective from the U.S.A. who returned to fighting after receiving a letter from Mr.K. He can use Big Tornade, Wheel Kick, Flying Wheel Kick, and Dynamite Tackle.
RYU YUNGMIE
The young queen in the Tai Kwando world from South Korea, searching for her parents. She can use Aura Smash, Triangle Jump, and Nerichagi.
RYU FEI-LIN
A Beijing Opera actress from China who wants to make a documentary film of herself fighting. She can use Hakkaku Ken, Mantis Cutter, and Mid-air Mantis.
MAKOTO MIZOGUCHI
A high school student from Japan who won the last Great Grapple and wants to show his strength to unknown fighters. He can use Mid-air Kick, Tiger Wave, Special Tiger Bazooka, and Tiger Bazooka.
JEAN PIERRE
Jean, after gaining desired treasure, has been losing the target of life and spending his time in the boring study of geology. One day he participated in the Paris Gymnastic Competition to be humiliated of 9.97 points instead of 10, he made preparations for the next journey.
RYOKO KANO
She has long desire to surpass her grandfather Gengoro, even after becoming the No.1 in Judo world. And at last, she devised a new super technique 'Shin Yamaarashi!'
LEE DIENDO
The letter came from the man who defeated his great father Gentoku. As the strong feeling of revenge has now gone, he wished to fight him again without any private intension.
MARSTORIUS
With the fame won at the previous battle, he has been participating in parties in political and financial worlds, devoting himself to his business. But his fading pride was awakened by his wife's remarks.

How to Play
Starting Play
Place the cassette into the console and turn the power on. The title screen will appear.
•
Press START Button on the controller to start play.
•
In 2-Player Competition, press START Button on the 2P controller.
Difficulty Setting
There are levels of difficulty for VS COMPUTER mode.
•
Choose EASY (Weak), NORMAL (Standard), or HARD (Strong) using Joystick.
•
Confirm by A Button.
How to Play Screen
Fundamental operations are displayed in animation.
•
To skip the screen, press the A Button.
Memory Card Loading
When a memory card is inserted into the console, the LOAD screen will appear.
•
If you choose YES, you can begin the game from the stage at which you left off at the previous time.
Character Selection
•
Move the cursor to the desired character with the joystick and press A Button to select.
•
The same characters can be selected in 2P mode.
Color Selection
•
Press D Button to select different colors for the same characters' clothes.
Game Start
Selected character and stage are displayed on the screen, then the game starts.
•
Press A Button to skip the demonstration.
2P Competition and Mid-Action Participation
If a second controller is connected to the console, a second party can enter the game.
•
Press the START Button on the 2P controller.
The Weak Point System
Each fighter in the Great Grapple has his/her own weak point. If your attack hits your opponent's weak point, you can deprive him/her of power. But take care not to be hit by your own weak point!
•
First, attack every point!
•
Try to find the weak point of your opponent.
•
Unless the weak point is destroyed, you will not be fainted.
•
A point illuminates!
•
Attack on the illuminating points, that's the weak point.
•
Concentrate the point!
•
Hit the point 3 times, then the protecting item is destroyed.
•
A big chance!
•
The opponent is fainted. Attack continuously.
Memory Card Function
Using MEMORY CARD (sold separately) you can easily SAVE and LOAD data of the game. This function enables you to restart your game from the stage you left off, instead of starting from the beginning.
To Load
•
Insert the MEMORY CARD into the memory card slot on the NEO-GEO system.
•
"LOAD DATA" appears on the screen before the start of the game.
•
Select "YES" with the joystick and confirm with the "A" button.
To Save
•
Insert the MEMORY CARD into the memory card slot on the NEO GEO system.
•
After playing the game, "SAVE DATA" appears on the screen.
•
Select "YES" with the joystick and confirm with the "A" button.
•
Note that previous data will be deleted when new data of the same title is saved.
Initialization
The NEO GEO MEMORY CARD must be initialized using the NEO-GEO HOME SYSTEM before it can be used.
•
Install any NEO-GEO game cartridge into the NEO-GEO HOME SYSTEM and turn the power on.
•
Push the "Reset" button on the console while holding down A, B, C & D buttons on the 1P controller.
•
When "MEMORY CARD UTILITY MENU" appears on the screen, select "INITIALIZATION" and follow the on-screen instructions.
•
Press "A" button when completed.
Notes on Using Memory Card
•
A NEO-GEO game cartridge is necessary when SAVE & LOAD data on the MEMORY CARD.
•
Do not remove the MEMORY CARD or game cartridge from the console during LOAD or SAVE.
•
Do not turn off the power until LOAD or SAVE is completed.
•
Make sure that the MEMORY CARD is inserted into the slot with the markings matching the console.
•
IC cards other than NEO-GEO MEMORY CARDS are invalid for use on the NEO-GEO SYSTEM. Use NEO-GEO MEMORY CARDS designed for NEO-GEO SYSTEM only.
Notes on Using Cartridge
•
This cartridge is compatible only with NEO-GEO HOME SYSTEM.
•
Please turn the machine OFF before inserting or removing the game cartridge.
•
Do not expose this cartridge to extreme temperatures or severe shock.
•
Never attempt to take this cartridge apart as it may damage the sensitive components within.
•
Exposing the cartridge to water or dirt may result in damage to the cartridge.
•
Cleaners such as thinner, benzine, or alcohol should not be used on this cartridge.
•
When not in use, disconnect the console from its power source.
•
Do not connect NEO-GEO HOME SYSTEM to a Projection TV. It might cause burn on the screen.
General Play Suggestions
To get the most enjoyment out of this and other NEO-GEO video games, we encourage you to follow the suggestions below.
•
Be sure to take a break at least once every hour.
•
When you are very tired or are sick, it is best to refrain from playing until your body has returned to normal.
•
Be sure to play video games in a bright environment at a healthy distance from the television screen.
