International Cricket Captain 2002 is one of a series of cricketing games from Empire Interactive. In single-player mode, the player can play the full game by leading any of the English county teams.

The player can also take control of an English county team, manage them and earn the right to captain the national team. Alternatively, they can play as a national team manager, choosing from countries such as Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Zimbabwe.

In two-player mode, each player selects a different international team, competing in matches with either a one-match series or a longer format. The batting side uses the keyboard to control their team.

There are also classic matches, or Scenarios, which allow the player to relive historic matches or try to change the outcome. These include iconic matches such as 1948 England v Australia, 1971 England v India, and the 2002 Australia v England, as well as the 2003 World Cup.

When playing a match, the player can adjust various aspects of bowling and batting, including the delivery type, aggression level, and target stump. They can also view animations of the action and set preferences for delivery views during an innings.
