Akira Psycho Ball is a pinball game based on the animated movie Akira (1988). The focus of the game is the story mode, where the player visits four stages: Neo-Tokyo, Laboratory, A-Room and Olympic Stadium. Each stage has its own tables, with objectives to reach using traditional pinball mechanics.
The arcade mode becomes available after completing the story, allowing players to compete for high scores on any table. The vs. mode pits the player against either the AI or another human on two interconnected tables. The goal is to send as many balls as possible to the opponent's side, with each lost ball resulting in a penalty point.
Players can find secret rooms on each table, adding an extra layer of challenge and exploration. By completing objectives and unlocking new content, players can fully experience the game's story and gameplay mechanics.
