You take on the role of commander of two squads of the United States military, Alpha and Branco , as you guide them in the fictional country of Zekistan on a mission to capture or kill the terrorist Al Afad.
In this game, you don't directly control your troops. You tell your squad what to do, and they'll do it. It's like a real-time strategy game. You can tell your two squads to do numerous things, such as hide behind a wall, take cover behind a car, lob a grenade, fire off a rocket, or attack a target.
The game takes place in one location, a Middle Eastern country, that is split up into several areas. You will have to make your way through parks, an airport, city streets, and even some buildings. Throughout the country are many terrorists, all of whom are trying to kill you. Each squad has four members: the team leader, automatic rifleman, grenadier, and rifleman, each playing a unique role.
Full Spectrum Warrior supports Xbox Live, where two players can play through the single player campaign for PlayStation 2 . One player controls Alpha while the other controls Bravo, working together to complete objectives.

Game Guide
Extracted from the original game manual
This is a military simulation game where players participate in a fictional NATO invasion of Zekistan. The premise involves deposing a dictator and eliminating terrorist elements following a wave of international attacks. Players will likely engage in combat scenarios, commanding forces in a modern warfare setting.
Story
The Conflict
A wave of terrorist attacks has spread across Europe and Southeast Asia, targeting U.S. and U.K. interests. These include embassies, corporate headquarters, and western retail and restaurant chains. U.S. intelligence traced the source of these attacks to Zekistan.
After operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, thousands of ex-Taliban and Iraqi loyalists sought asylum in Zekistan. They were invited by the nation's dictator, Al Afad. Terrorist training facilities and death-camps, similar to those in Afghanistan, soon began operating under Al Afad's government.
Following repeated warnings and failed diplomatic resolutions, NATO voted to invade Zekistan. The goals are to depose Al Afad, eliminate the terrorist element, and stop the ethnic cleansing of the Zeki people.
Pakistan granted the U.S. fly-through access to its airspace, and the operation began. Carrier groups USS Carl Vinson and USS Ronald Reagan launched thousands of sorties from the Arabian Sea. These sorties targeted air defense, armor, and enemy bases.
Infantry and Armor from seven NATO nations then began landing at captured air bases in southern Zekistan. The land invasion is now underway.
Profile: Mohammad Jabbour Al Afad
Al Afad was born in Lebanon to wealthy parents and studied abroad. He spent time in England, France, and attended university in the U.S. In the late seventies, Al Afad moved to Pakistan, and his whereabouts during this time are unknown.
Three years later, he resurfaced in Afghanistan, fighting Soviet occupiers alongside Afghan Mujahideen. Trained by the CIA, he quickly rose through the ranks of the Afghan freedom fighters. He gained a formidable reputation among Soviet commanders, earning the nickname "The Lion of Khyber."
After a narrow escape from Soviet capture, he fled into Zekistan. There, he was embraced by the ZLF and given command of his own unit. His actions in the ZLF made him a folk hero to the Zekis.
However, Western involvement hindered his bid for power. The CIA closely watched Al Afad's ascent and feared his ties to terrorist groups and radical fundamentalists. They believed these ties would be perilous to western interests in the region.

Commands Overview
Cursors
There are three cursor states in Full Spectrum Warrior. The current cursor state determines what command you are issuing if you press the button.
•
No Cursor (Default State): Pressing the button will cause your team to turn toward the direction you're facing.
•
Movement Cursor Active (): Pressing the button will issue a Rush order to that location. Your soldiers will take up the indicated formation. If you press and hold the button while aiming at the designated target, the soldiers will Bound rather than Rush.
•
Fire Sector Cursor Active (e) (by pressing the button): Pressing the button will issue a point fire order. If you press and hold the button, you will issue a suppression fire order instead.
MOUT: Military Operations in Urban Terrain
You command a dismounted light infantry squad, a highly trained group of soldiers who understand how to operate in a hostile, highly populated environment. Everything about your squad—from its soldiers to its equipment to its tactics—is the result of careful planning and years of experience on the battlefield. Respect that experience, soldier, since it's what will keep your soldiers alive.
This field manual provides you with the basics to get you started. The rest you'll pick up in hands-on training.
The Fireteams
Your squad has two teams, Alpha and Bravo. You'll use these two teams together to move safely through dangerous environments that would be deadly for a single team.
Each team has four soldiers in distinct positions. They have been taught to work together, each with assigned duties and set scanning sectors. Your job is not to tell each man his responsibilities on the team. We spent years training them so you can focus on larger issues.
Team Leader (TL)
The Team Leader is the highest ranking infantryman on your team. He's an experienced soldier who has served in all three fireteam roles. He issues commands to the team: both the commands you give and other spontaneous commands that will save his men's lives under fire.
Your TL performs several special functions explained later in this guide, including checking corners, reporting to the platoon leader, and consulting the Global Positioning System.
Automatic Rifleman (AR)
The Automatic Rifleman, or SAW gunner, wields the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon. The AR has field experience, and steps up as the Team Leader if the TL is incapacitated.
In addition, the high powered SAW enables the AR to tie down enemies and help your team move safely under fire.
M203 Gunner or Grenadier (G)
The M203 Gunner carries an M class rifle with the M203 Grenade Launcher attachment. This enables him to fire normal rounds as well as more specialized, powerful M203 shaped charges.
He can send these grenades down-range much farther than a soldier can throw frag grenades, and they can take down an enemy's cover with a single strike.
Rifleman (R)
The Rifleman has the least experience of soldiers on the fireteam, but don't underestimate him—he's had extensive training. The Rifleman fires rounds from his M class rifle where you direct him, and he also gives aid to downed soldiers in the field.
Assessing the Environment
Zoom
You can zoom in on your current view by pressing and holding the L1 button. You can still move the right analog stick while zoomed to look around.
*TIP: Zooming can also help you aim the M203 toward distant targets.*
Fog of War
When you press and hold the R1 button, you activate the 3D fog of war. The world is clear and bright where a soldier is looking, and out of focus in areas where no one is scanning for targets.
By checking the fog of war, you can get a good idea of where you're vulnerable to attack.
Moving Your Soldiers
Moving safely in the environment is the most important element of successful command. The soldiers on your teams have been trained in movement formations, so your role is to select the best position for them on the field. They will automatically move to the formation selected and take up their scanning sectors, each man covering an arc of view.

Tips & Maps
Point Fire Orders
Pressing the button when the fire sector cursor is open issues a point fire order in that direction, causing your soldiers to open fire on enemies within that sector while ignoring those outside it.
TIP: Canceling a fire sector
If a team with a fire sector comes under fire, press the button and cancel the sector to have them return fire, giving you time to issue a move or suppression order.
Suppression Fire Orders
Pressing and holding the button when the fire sector cursor is open issues a suppression fire command, causing your team to fire continuously at all enemies within the sector, often leading to enemies becoming Pinned.
TIP: Suppression Fire Orders
Never order suppression if you can't fit all enemies into the fire sector, as your team will lose cover and enemies outside the sector will kill them.
Effects of Fire
Soldiers under heavy fire will duck down, unable to return fire or do anything but move.
TIP: Suppress and Run
To move a team under enemy fire, suppress the enemy, place the movement cursor at the team's destination, and issue the move order without canceling suppression fire, allowing your team to reach safe ground while the enemy is pinned.
Cover Symbols
Icons over your team's heads indicate if they have cover against a threat; if no shield icon appears, they lack cover against the targeting enemy.
Flanking an enemy
When an enemy has cover, a shield symbol appears over their head; to kill them, you must flank them by moving to an angle where they have no cover against your team's fire.
Individual Fire Orders
Holding the R1 button and opening a fire sector assigns that sector only to the currently selected soldier, allowing for individual targeting.
TIP: Splitting Fire with Individual Fire Orders
Use individual fire orders to split your team's fire, engaging multiple enemies with a single team by assigning a team fire sector to one enemy and an individual fire order to another.
Reporting with the Radio
Team Leaders can press the L2 button to report to Lt. Phillips at any time for advice, and the red light on the radio pack will blink when he expects a report.
TIP: Reporting with the Radio
Ensure your Team Leader is safely behind cover, or they will be unable to complete their radio report.
The Global Positioning System
Pressing the R2 button orders your Team Leader to consult the Global Positioning System, which provides satellite data and various functions.
City Map
The default screen of the Global Positioning System is a detailed city map showing your teams, the Team Leader's field of view, enemies, CASEVACS, objectives, and save points.
Objective Screen
Pressing the button while the Global Positioning System is open displays the objective screen, providing information about the current chapter's overall objective and the most current objective.
Recon
Pressing the button while the Global Positioning System is open calls in a recon flight, which, if available, will mark spotted enemies on your GPS and indicate enemy presence as heavy or light.
Help
Pressing the button while the Global Positioning System is open displays the Help screen.
TIP: Using the Global Positioning System for Flanking
Use the Global Positioning System map to find alleys and other routes to flank enemies behind cover.
