Go Go Golf is a golfing game for one to four players, where the player faces off against AI opponents. The game provides predefined golfing characters, each with their own strengths, on three unique golf courses. These courses can be played in three different formats: Stroke Play, Match Play, and Tour.
The objective of the game is to win as many strokes as possible over 18 holes in Stroke Play, or win the most holes in Match Play. In Tour mode, the player must accumulate more than $1.5m by competing in a series of tournaments. To achieve this, the player must qualify for the major tournaments held in June and July, which includes the All Japan Masters and the Asian Open.
Gameplay is unique, with players using a single button, Cross, to initiate strokes. The timing of this press determines the success of the shot. Players receive feedback on their performance, ranging from "Too Fast" to "Perfect". Club selection is automatic, and most shots have multiple options, including approach strokes on the green.
The game features no course flybys, gimmes, or character creation. The courses and characters are not based on real-life locations. While players can view the ground ahead before taking their shot, camera angles are fixed and automatic. Matches are played over 18 holes, with no "front nine" or "back nine" format.
