Game Guide
Extracted from the original game manual
This is an action-adventure game where players embody Spider-Man, a superhero with spider-like powers. You'll use his abilities to protect New York City from various threats and villains, learning that "with great power comes great responsibility."
Story
Birth of a Hero
Orphaned at a young age, Peter Parker lives in Queens, New York with his beloved Aunt May and Uncle Ben. Peter leads the life of a good-hearted, yet solitary, teenager making his way through high school.
On a school trip to a research institute, Peter Parker's class is given a demonstration of genetic research conducted on spiders. Peter is bitten by one of the genetically altered spiders.
The next morning, Peter discovers that suddenly his vision is perfect and his previously scrawny body has become muscular. He now has incredible strength, and his hands mysteriously adhere like glue to everything.
Peter gradually teaches himself to gain better control of his powers. Initially, he uses his ESP-like "Spider-Sense" and superhuman strength, speed and agility to make money in order to impress the lovely Mary Jane.
However, it is only through the tragic death of his uncle that Peter learns that "with great power comes great responsibility." It is these words that transform Peter Parker from a teenager with extraordinary powers into the amazing Spider-Man, a super-hero out to protect the city from a never-ending supply of perils.
Meanwhile, in a lab at OsCorp, Spider-Man's ultimate nemesis is about to be born.
Are you up to the challenge?

Web Yank Twirl
Tips & Maps
Web Dome
The web dome creates a shield around Spider-Man, protecting him from damage, and when he breaks out, enemies are knocked back and take damage. Finding a Gold Spider Icon allows for a second, more powerful web dome.
Impact Webbing
This web attack fires a powerful web ball at foes, but uses a large amount of web fluid and is slow, making it less ideal for fast aerial opponents. With the Enhanced Controller Configuration, a Gold Spider Icon allows for a more powerful charged web ball by holding the web button.
Web Yank
Use web yank to bring long-range enemies up close. For advanced users with the Enhanced Controller Configuration, the twirl yank allows you to swing an enemy around, knocking down other enemies.
Web Laser
This fast web attack is ideal for aerial enemies; press the web button while swinging or jumping to shoot a damaging stream of webbing, but keep an eye on your web meter as it uses a good amount of fluid.
COMBO SYSTEM
As Spider-Man progresses, he learns new combo attacks starting with a punch or kick, chaining up to three moves for different results and earning style points. Look for Gold Spider Icons to gain new combo moves and advanced web attacks, some of which may be hidden.
Grapple
Spidey can grapple opponents by jumping above them and holding the Jump button to land the maneuver, allowing for well-placed punches, but be mindful of your height meter.
Rescuing Civilians
To rescue civilians, face them and press the Punch/Action button to pick them up; when carrying a civilian, Spidey can only do one web swing at a time, so keep pressing the web swing button to stay in the air, and press Punch/Action again to put them down.
Activating Switches
To operate doors and obstacles requiring a switch, face the panel and press the Punch/Action button to activate it.
Opening Locked Doors
Some doors require keys, which are held by various enemies; once Spider-Man has a key, the correct door will open automatically.
Clearing Thugs
If surrounded by a large number of thugs, use the web dome to clear them out.
Double Jump
Use the double jump to leap over obstacles and access high walkways.
