Star Wars: The Force Unleashed , released on September 19th, 2008 for the PlayStation 2, is an action-packed adventure that fills the gap between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope . The story follows a young boy who was discovered by Darth Vader while fighting his father's Jedi on the planet of Kashyyk. Vader takes the boy as his secret apprentice, training him to destroy the remaining Jedi scattered across the galaxy.
The gameplay involves exploring levels, using force powers such as lightning and grip to defeat opponents. Players can also wield a light-saber, slicing up enemies with the ability to change its colors by finding different color crystals throughout the game. To upgrade these powers, players must destroy enemies, collect blue orbs, and complete complex button-pressing scenes.
As players progress through the levels, they'll encounter bosses ranging from Jedi to large creatures like a Rancor. To defeat these bosses, players must navigate through series of button-pressing sequences, similar to other action-adventure games. The game features a unique physics engine using Havok, different level layouts, and story differences that set it apart from its next-gen counterparts.
