The game Don Doko Don 2 begins with a wedding ceremony interrupted by a bat that turns the groom into a frog. Two dwarfs from the original game are called upon to find a potion to reverse the transformation.
Players control the dwarfs as they navigate through five lands infested with wildlife, armed with a mallet that can be used to defeat enemies and smash objects. The dwarfs can also pick up defeated enemies and toss them at others to obtain gems, which grant points. Throughout their journey, players can break open chests containing items such as scrolls, extra energy, and new weapons.
The game is structured with each land being exited through an open doorway, but some doors are locked and require a key to unlock. At the end of each land, players encounter a boss that must be defeated by accumulating a set number of hits before progressing to the next area.
