Giant Killers is a text-based football management game where the focus is on statistics rather than action. The game lets players take control of any team in the UK's Premier league, Divisions One, Two or Three, or the Conference league. It has three levels of difficulty: easy, medium, and hard.
In the easy level, a wealthy benefactor provides £25m to help the player's club. In the medium setting, £25m is still available, but two other clubs in the league also receive the same cash injection. In the hard mode, there's no extra cash available.
After starting the game and selecting a team, players are presented with the main menu. Options include viewing the club's status, fixtures, results, and league tables, as well as accessing the transfer market to buy and sell players, and the manager's diary to receive messages about transfers and match outcomes.
On match day, players select their team from the available squad, decide on a formation and tactics, such as long ball or passing. The game offers standard formations plus the chance to create custom ones.
Before starting the match, players can pause the game at any time to change tactics or make substitutions. After the match, they can view stats on individual performance and more.
The game is controlled using a mouse, with a keyboard required for entering names when saving games.
