Super Fantasy Zone is a sequel to Fantasy Zone , where a strange gravitational force appears on the Menon planet, threatening the Fantasy Zone. The evil Menon empire sees this as an opportunity to strike, and O-Papa's father is fatally wounded in the attack.
You play as Opa-Opa, seeking revenge against the Menon empire and destroying enemy generators in each level. The gameplay is similar to classic arcade shooters, where you must defeat bosses after completing levels. You can spend coins collected on upgrades at a shop before heading into the next level.
The Mega Drive version of Super Fantasy Zone introduces new features, such as more control options and additional weapons and items to upgrade your ship. The game takes advantage of the console's extra buttons for expanded control mapping.
