DJ Hero 2 is the follow-up to the Faux instrument rhythm game DJ Hero. Using either a standard console controller or the turnstyle peripheral designed for the DJ Hero games, the player must match the rhythm of the music by 'scratching' the music and while matching the on-screen prompts in order to score as many points as possible.
Much like the similar Guitar Hero sequels, DJ Hero 2 has a new soundtrack including music from Lady Gaga, the Chemical Brothers, Dr. Dre, and the Prodigy, as well as improved graphics for sequels. DJ Hero 2 also features a new game mode called Empire, which is essentially a single-player career. Players take control of their up-and-coming DJ and guide them through the DJing process to reach the top. The player can also create their own nightclub in cities like London and Berlin for their character, which they can tour and promote, increasing their fame.
The multiplayer starts off much like any other rhythm game, but DJ Hero 2 's has a new rewind feature, which allows the player to rewind tracks in multiplayer to correct mistakes. The rewind ability is only awarded when the player has done enough to earn it and is temporary. DJ Hero 2 also features standard head-to-head mode and gives another player a chance to handle the vocals of the track, requiring them to match pitch and timing as well.
