ESPN NBA Basketball is the follow-up to last year's NBA 2K3.
The game is presented like you're watching an NBA broadcast, with stat overlays, pre-game and half-time shows, action replays, and animations.
ESPN NBA Basketball has all the standard game modes, such as quick game and practice, plus additional modes like one-on-one and street basketball. You can also compete in games like being the first player to score twenty-one. The game comes with franchise mode, where you lead a team of your choice to victory or defeat in multiple seasons.
The newest feature is 24/7, where you start as a nobody basketball player in a local gym. You must win matches to improve your stats, and take on "bosses" to get further. By beating a boss, you'll get their cell phone number, which you can use to call them for help in a doubles game.
The IsoMotion control systems help with moves like dekes, spins, and fakes by moving the right analog stick. This system also has an opposite effect, so using it too much may result in penalties.
Both Xbox and PlayStation 2 offer online play, with PS2 having narrow or broadband connections and exclusive leagues.
There are many specials to unlock by completing tasks, such as making a total of fifteen double-double's to unlock a new team.
ESPN NBA Basketball features all the standard NBA teams, including the New York Knicks and the Toronto Raptors. You can also create your own player or team.
