Defiance , an MMO third-person shooter, takes place several decades into the future in the San Francisco Bay Area. The game follows a war between humans and an alien race known as the Votans, who arrived on Earth after their planet was destroyed. This clash of species unleashed powerful forces that transformed the Earth's surface. Players take on the role of an "Ark Hunter" hired by a wealthy industrialist to search for hidden alien power.
Defiance offers advanced character customization options, allowing players to personalize everything from clothing and facial features to their ability to choose between being Human or an Irathient. The game's class system is flexible, with origins such as veterans, outlaws, machinists, and survivalists serving as a starting point for the character.
