Enemy Territory: Quake Wars takes place in 2060 when the Strogg invade Earth, leading to a desperate fight for survival by the Global Defense Force. As part of this last battle, you'll play an important role in the events that unfold before the start of Quake II.
The game focuses on objective-driven gameplay rather than traditional capture-the-flag modes like in the Battlefield Series. On every map, one team must complete an objective while the other protects it. For example, on the "Valley" map, the GDF needs to build a bridge, drive a vehicle over it, hack a shield, and destroy a generator.
The game features five classes for each side, each with unique abilities. The engineer can build bridges, repair vehicles, or deploy identities, while the Field Ops class supports teammates by handing out weapons and deploying artillery systems. With large maps, you'll have access to various vehicles, including quadbikes and helicopters.
A key aspect of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is its asymmetrical team balance. The classes, weapons, and vehicles are not just different; they're also balanced to create a unique gameplay experience for each side. For instance, the Strogg medic can revive teammates instantly, but the GDF medic behaves similarly to other medics.
The game's classes can turn dead soldiers into spawn hosts for the enemy team when the technician dies. This adds a layer of strategy to the gameplay as teams must balance their own abilities with the opposing side's unique mechanics.
