Saints Row: Gat out of Hell is an add-on sized successor to Saints Row IV . The main difference between the two is that this game has no story missions. Instead, the plot progresses by completing enough side missions. When enough chaos is created, a cutscene starts and a new side mission type gets unlocked. After three cutscenes, the player is ready to face the final boss. Other key differences include the smaller scope of Hell's city, lack of customization, and no licensed music.
Character development in Saints Row: Gat out of Hell is similar to Saints Row IV , with new superpowers unlocked by finding and activating altars. Flying has been redesigned, with Kinzie or Gat having giant wings instead of hovering. The player's wing-flapping abilities slow them down over time until they flap again. The number of flaps can be upgraded. While many distractions are familiar from the previous game, a few new ones have been introduced, such as shutting down factories by fighting for control points.
