The Saints Row: Gat out of Hell story follows Kinzie's birthday party, which takes a dark turn when Matt brings an Ouija board that summons Satan, dragging the Boss into Hell. Gat and Kinzie embark on a rescue mission to save their leader, meeting old acquaintances and historical figures along the way.
The gameplay of Saints Row: Gat out of Hell is distinct from its predecessor, Saints Row IV . With no traditional story missions, the plot unfolds through side missions that culminate in cutscenes. These events trigger new mission types and unlock challenges. The game takes place in Hell, a smaller city with reduced scope compared to Steelport. Character customization is limited to playing as either Gat or Kinzie, with new super powers unlocked by finding altars. Flight mechanics are also revised, featuring giant wings that slow down over time.
Players can engage in various activities, including hellblazing (a flying checkpoint race), torment fraud (an insurance fraud variant), mayhem (causing chaos with a given weapon or vehicle), and salvation (collecting husks from the sky before they reach the ground). Character development is similar to Saints Row IV , with new abilities and distractions reimagined for this scenario.
