Single Player Setup
•
Choose Player: Choose to play as either Death Jr. or as Pandora. •
Difficulty Select: Choose from four levels of difficulty. As difficulty increases, enemy attacks become more frequent and accurate, enemies take less damage, projectile velocity increases, and the number of simultaneous attackers increases. The default difficulty is HEALTHY.
Multiplayer Hosting & Joining
•
New Game (Host): Host a new game, selecting the player character and difficulty level. The host must wait for another player to join.
•
Load Game (Host): Select a saved multiplayer game to host. The host must wait for another player to join to begin.
•
Join Game: Join a hosted game. Use the directional buttons to highlight a game in the lobby menu and press the X button to join. The host's character is indicated by a DJ or Pandora icon next to their PSP™ nickname. The Forest
This is where the game starts. DJ and the gang are out in the woods for a science project to collect cocoons. Everyone but DJ and Pandora have found cocoons, and they are both in danger of receiving an 'F' if they cannot find one. The player starts along a forest path where the gang is gathered. Several tutorial messages will appear to guide DJ and Pandora on their way. The Game Screen
•
Health Meter: Displays DJ and Pandora's health in green. Recently taken damage is briefly indicated in gray. If the meter empties, the player dies and must select CONTINUE, RESTART LEVEL, or QUIT. •
Current Weapon/Ammo Level: Displays the active weapon icon and ammunition bar on the lower left of the screen.
•
Energy Counter: Displays current energy on the upper right of the screen. Energy is used to purchase weapon upgrades, ammunition, and melee combos.
•
Player Arrow (Multiplayer Only): A red arrow and player icon appear on the side of the screen pointing toward the off-screen player. The arrow blinks when the other player is about to be teleported to you.
•
Syringe Slot: Displays a syringe icon on the right side of the screen when a player has a syringe filled with weed killer in their inventory.
Level Obstacles & Collectibles
•
Root Doors: Root barriers that block progress. Players must find a syringe filled with weed killer, approach the root, and press the O button to inject it and proceed.
•
Weed Killer Syringes: Required to pass root barriers. These are hidden in secret areas or dropped by defeated enemies.
•
Weapon Parts: Components discovered throughout the levels, either out in the open or in hidden areas. Smith and Weston can assemble these parts into weapons. •
Ammo Chests: Chests found throughout the game that can be broken open with melee or ranged attacks. Collected ammo replenishes whichever weapon needs it most, leaning toward the currently equipped weapon.
•
Health Orbs: Green floating balls dropped by enemies or found in the environment. Collecting them replenishes health, but they cannot be picked up if health is already maxed out.
•
Energy Orbs: Yellow floating balls found by killing enemies, navigating difficult platforming areas, or discovering hidden locations. Collecting them increases the energy counter.
The Lab
Upgrade labs set up by Smith and Weston are located throughout each level. Approach a lab and press the [O] button to enter. The following options are available inside: •
Weapons: Smith and Weston can construct weapons from collected parts, track your parts, and upgrade weapons. Toggle between weapons using the [L] and [R] buttons. Current energy is displayed in the bottom-right corner. Required parts are listed on a top-right memo; collected parts are marked with a check. Press [X] to assemble a weapon once all parts are gathered. Press [O] to purchase ammo for the selected weapon. •
Melee: Scroll through melee combo names and upgrade costs on the top-right using the [L] and [R] buttons. Descriptions are shown on the bottom-left memo. Press [X] to purchase a selected upgrade or combo.
DJ's Weapons
•
Twin Pistols: DJ's basic weapons. Hold the [O] button to fire at a constant rate, or tap it quickly to fire faster. Good for weak enemies, but they lose accuracy at long distances and deal low damage.
•
Icer: A short-range weapon that slows down and freezes enemies, making them brittle and easy to shatter. Fires continuously as long as [O] is held and ammo is available.
•
Flaming TP Launcher: Throws a flaming roll of toilet paper that explodes on impact, setting surviving enemies on fire.
•
C4 Hamster: A hamster carrying C4 that seeks out the nearest enemy. It explodes on impact or within 2 seconds of being thrown.
Saving & Loading
A Memory Stick Duo™ is required to save. Select Load Game from the start menu to load a save slot. To save during play, choose Save Game from the Pause menu.
Saving records energy, health, weapons, collected weapon parts, and level progress. Your exact position is not saved; loading a game places you at the last reached checkpoint.
