The game's Season Mode follows the player through various plotlines, chasing championship belts, with recorded dialogue adding to the storyline. Gameplay has been enhanced with more moves available to each wrestler, pre-match mini-games, and a new General Manager Mode.

As the GM, players must book a weekly show while managing costs, keeping wrestlers happy and healthy, and setting up feuds to keep ratings high. The game also allows earning Smackdown Dollars to buy new moves, items, and customize a locker room.
