Starting a Game
The One-player game offers 18 action-packed missions in caves and tunnels beneath an alien planet. Each mission has an objective, such as finding Energy Crystals or rescuing trapped Rock Raiders. Chief may reward you with a medal based on your performance. There are 6 Two-player missions designed for fun. Completing or failing these missions does not affect the overall game outcome.
Starting A One-Player Game
This is the Main Menu screen. Use the directional buttons to highlight NEW GAME and press the BUTTON.
If only one controller is inserted, you will only have the option to select ONE PLAYER. Press the BUTTON to select it.
Starting A Two-Player Game
If two controllers are inserted, you can choose between a One or Two-player game. To start a Two-player game, highlight Two Players and press the BUTTON.
Selecting A Mission
Each layer contains six caverns, each leading to a mission. Use the directional buttons to highlight your desired mission and press the BUTTON.
In the one-player game, the sixth cavern is locked until you achieve five Bronze medals (or equivalent) in that layer. After completing the sixth cavern, press down on the directional buttons to proceed to the next layer of the Select Mission screen.
Mission Briefing
Each mission begins with a briefing from Chief on the bridge of the LMS Explorer. He will explain the mission objectives with the aid of a holographic screen.
Use the directional buttons to scroll through the on-screen text and press the BUTTON to accept the mission. You will then choose which Rock Raider to control. Use the directional buttons to highlight your choice and press the BUTTON.
Puzzle Game
While a level is loading, a simple puzzle game is available. Your goal is to move squares to complete a picture before the level loads.
There is only one empty space to move a square into. To move a picture square, use the directional buttons to move the empty square to replace it.
How To Jump
Each Rock Raider's jetpack is activated by pressing the BUTTON, allowing for super-human leaps. While in the air, the Rock Raider remains controllable with the directional buttons.
Drilling
Rock Raiders start each mission with a Power Drill. To use it, move next to a wall and press the BUTTON.
How to Rotate Camera
While holding down the L2 BUTTON, use the directional buttons to rotate your camera view.
How to Strafe
You can move your Rock Raiders while keeping them facing one direction, which is useful for aiming. Hold down the R2 BUTTON; you can then move normally, but your Rock Raider will stay facing the 'locked' direction.
Shield Power
Each Rock Raider has a Shield, an invisible forcefield that protects against flying debris, falling rubble, and hostile alien lifeforms.
As the Shield takes damage, the spinning colored streams change from green to red. If Shield Power reaches zero, the Rock Raider is automatically beamed back to the LMS Explorer to prevent harm, and the mission ends.
Radar
The radar helps reveal dangers and locate lost Rock Raiders.

Currently Selected Tool
Once you find a tool, it appears on screen with a number indicating its remaining uses. Tools are activated by pressing the BUTTON.
If you have multiple tools, cycle through them by pressing the BUTTON.
Energy Crystals Collected
Glowing green Energy Crystals are often found in caves and tunnels. Collect them as they are usually needed to complete missions.
Rare red Energy Crystals are extremely powerful (five times green ones) and found in hard-to-reach places. They are not essential for a Bronze medal but help achieve Silver or Gold.
LEGO Ore Collected
LEGO Ore is a special rock substance found beneath the alien planet. Once collected, it can be beamed back to the LMS Explorer to build vehicles.
Rock Raiders Rescued
Some missions require rescuing lost or trapped Rock Raiders. Either walk up to them and touch them (allowing the LMS Explorer's Teleport System to lock on) or winch them to safety onboard the Tunnel Transport.
Know Your Rock
•
Loose Rock: Very easy to drill, even with the Power Drill.
•
Medium Rock: Takes a while to drill through without better equipment.
•
Hard Rock: Requires the Chrome Crusher, Dynamite, or Lasers to get through. •
Solid Rock: Impossible to drill or blast; you must find a way around it.
Collecting & Using Items
You will often find items left by previous Rock Raider expeditions. Collect them by walking or driving over them.
Collect items wisely; you may want to save some for later in the mission. For example, collecting a Vehicle Shield Recharge when your vehicle is undamaged would be a waste. Tools
Items like the Pusher Beam and Dynamite are tools that can be used multiple times. When selected, a tool appears on-screen below the
