Peak Performance is a racing game similar to Cruis'n USA, where you can choose from over 20 vehicles, including street cars, high-end performance cars, buses, and scooters. There are five tracks to choose from: Seven Tight Corners, Uptown Driveway, Northern Country, Bay Area, and Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The weather conditions on the track can be changed to add more challenge.
Players can compete against 11 other A.I. drivers or face off against a friend in split-screen mode, which merges into one screen when players come close together. There is also a Time-Trial mode where players race against the clock to unlock certain vehicles by beating times or finding them hidden on the track.
A Course Edit mode allows players to create their own Time Trial tracks and place time interval markers anywhere on the course. The game features Robby Unser, an eight-time winner of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
Peak Performance was released for the PlayStation console on 31 March 1997 and is a part of the racing genre.

This is a historical racing simulation game where players compete in various vehicles to achieve the fastest time up the treacherous Pikes Peak mountain course. The goal is to conquer the challenging 12.42-mile ascent and set new records, following in the footsteps of legendary drivers.
Story
Pike's Peak Challenge
Drivers with courage and gall compete to reach the top of Pike's Peak in the shortest time. The goal is simple: be the quickest to the top in one piece.
Competition categories have expanded to include various cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Each aims to be first in its class.
The race is a non-stop scramble across slick mountain roads. It ends either with the checkered flag or a long drop down the hill. If you love high-speed racing, try one of the many vehicles on this harrowing course.
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb: Race to the Clouds
A Brief History
The Pikes Peak Hill Climb, also known as the "Race to the Clouds," began in 1916. This was scarcely 15 years after the first automobile reached the 14,110-foot summit of Pikes Peak.
In 1901, C.A. Yont and W.B. Felker drove and pushed their steam-powered car up a precarious stagecoach trail. This started a tradition of motor racing that brought international acclaim to Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains.
Spencer Penrose, founder of the Broadmoor Hotel, created the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. It was a way to advertise the newly completed Pikes Peak Highway and the growing Colorado Springs area.
In its first series of races in August 1916, both cars and motorcycles raced the 156 turns over the 12.42-mile groomed gravel course. While vehicle types have changed, the race course remains essentially the same.
For 1997, an exhibition vintage car division was added, and Legends Cars returned. In 1996, the name changed to Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to reflect its worldwide appeal and broad scope of racing divisions.
The Challenge Continues
The 75th running of the Race to the Clouds continues the challenge of this twelve-mile, high-altitude ascent. In 1901, the first car struggled to the summit in nine hours.
In 1994, New Zealander Rod Millen drove his AWD Toyota to a record of ten minutes, four seconds. This year, the 10-minute barrier may be broken.
Racing Legends
Over the years, names like Oldfield, Andretti, Mears, Parnelli Jones, and Unser have graced the event. International stars include current record holder Rod Millen, and former winners Michelle Mouton, Walter Rohrl, Ari Vatanen, and Nobuhiro Tajima.
As the 75th running of this classic race approaches, special events are planned for 1997. These events will benefit the entire Pikes Peak region.

Everyone is encouraged to visit the historic Educational Museum and Gift Shop. If you can't join on July 4, listen to the race live on Sports Radio AM-1240 KRDO and watch ESPN and ESPN2.

How to Play
STARTING UP
Set up your PlayStation™ game console according to the instructions in its Instruction Manual. Make sure the power is off before inserting or removing a compact disc.
Insert the PEAK PERFORMANCE™ disc and close the disc cover. Insert the game controllers and turn on the PlayStation™ game console. Follow on-screen instructions to start a game.

This menu allows you to customize your own car, using a base car from the car selection.
OPTIONS
You may change the various settings of the game here. If you want to save your record of your race or time attack you must do it in this mode. Be sure to save your records before you turn off the power.
Ranking
Displays your race ranking and time trial ranking during the race on every course.

Game Option

Quick Select: You can go directly to "Car Select" without having to go through the screen change. If you turn off this option, the screen will shift/move when you scroll through individual cars.

Sound Out: Choose between Monaural and Stereo.

TV Mode: Choose between Normal and Wide screen mode.
Car Name Edit
Name your own car to personalize it!

Reset Game
During gameplay, press START to pause the game. Select Exit Race, and press the X button.
REPLAY
You can replay and view your own driving in this mode. After you have finished your run, the menu will be displayed.
If you want to save your run, you can choose "Replay Save" from the pause menu. To save the data, you will need more than 1 free block of Memory Card (sold separately).
Saved data can be accessed and seen anytime when you load the data from Replay Mode. You can use this feature to save your favorite run or to study difficult corners in the course.
NOTES
When you save multiple data, make sure you choose a different "Name" for each file.

TECHNIQUES 1
When approaching a corner, steer, release gas, then brake. Tap gas when rear wheels lift to initiate a drift, then release brake, control acceleration, and counter steer through the corner.
TECHNIQUES 2
For punishing curves, apply brakes and shift down before the curve. Wait until the curve ends before accelerating.
