The PS2 version of Dynasty Warriors 6 is released in Japan as Shin Sangoku Musō 5 Special . The game features six new characters with their own unique moves and weapons. These changes bring new stories to the game, along with five new stages.
The six new characters that had clone move sets have been given individual weapons and moves. Ma Chao now wields a great sword, Cao Pi uses a longsword, Zhang He employs his trademark claws, Taishi Ci carries rods, Ling Tong switches to a three-section staff, and Yue Ying uses a bladed crossbow.
The game has also undergone various minor changes, including the removal of dueling and swimming. Water bodies are now shallow enough for characters to cross by foot.
Notably, the PSP version of Dynasty Warriors 6 includes Meng Huo as a playable character, who was initially missing from the game but added in Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires .
