Persona 3 follows the story of a young person who has lost their parents as a child and is sent to live with relatives in the suburbs. They are then transferred to a high school located on an island near the port city Iwatodai, where they discover within themselves the ability to call upon a higher being known as Persona . This newfound power leads them to investigate the mysterious world of shadows that appears every midnight and to find out who or what is behind it.
The gameplay of Persona 3 has undergone significant changes, incorporating an element of "school simulation" into the Megaten RPG formula. The game is divided into school days with their own schedule, allowing players to attend classes, talk to friends, get homework, and wait for summer vacation. However, at midnight, the real world freezes, and only those with Persona abilities can feel time passing as they battle the shadows.
The battles in Persona 3 follow a classic Megaten model of demon-summoning, where players can attack with their weapons or call upon their Persona to deal massive damage. After winning a battle, players receive Persona cards that can be fused to create more powerful Personae. The game also features a system inspired by Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne , allowing players to hit enemies' weakpoints with magic spells and perform devastating combo attacks while they are weakened.
Persona 3 was released on the PlayStation 2 in August 2007, building upon the gameplay of its predecessors in the series. As part of the Megami Tensei franchise, it offers a unique blend of social simulation and dungeon crawling that sets it apart from other RPGs.
