Armored Core V is an action game where the player controls a mech, a big combat robot. The story is about a reboot and has no connection to the previous games. The protagonist gets caught up in a war between two corporations: "Father"'s faction, which rules Alloy Gate City, and the resistance. The player joins the resistance.
The gameplay involves completing ten missions with cutscenes and voice-overs, and participating in optional order missions that don't have a story. The main goal is to move forward, blast enemy mechs and buildings, and collect money to upgrade the mech. This has been a core part of all Armored Core games, allowing for extensive customization.
The single-player content is combined with multiplayer: clan fights on a persistent map. From the start, the player can form a new clan or join an existing one. Every action, such as completing missions or participating in co-op/competitive battles with clan mates, earns team points. These are needed to challenge another clan for their territory.
