The game's story follows a traditional farming simulation theme, where players must manage their farm to earn a living. Two new activities are introduced: animal husbandry and forestry. Animal husbandry allows players to care for animals, while forestry lets them plant and cut down trees, which can be sold or used as wood chippings.

The gameplay is similar to previous games in the series, with manual actions such as connecting attachments, sowing, fertilization, plowing, harvesting, taking produce to the market, and feeding animals. The American settlement of Westbridge Hills offers a more challenging experience with larger fields. The game also features 20 new licensed manufacturers for equipment, over 140 vehicles and farming tools in total.

Players can work together online in cooperative mode, with up to six players on PS4 and Xbox One, or several players can participate in the host's single-player game while they manage it carefully. The game also features various missions and objectives that reward cash for completion.
