Front Mission Evolved is set in a world where mechs are used for combat. The game follows the story of Dylan Ramsey, who takes control of a mech to rescue his father after terrorists attack New York. As he progresses through the game, he meets allies who join him on his missions.
The gameplay in Front Mission Evolved is a third-person shooter with linear levels that require the player to destroy opposition. However, there are also on-foot missions where the player must infiltrate buildings without being detected. The mech's agility allows for more freedom of movement, and the E.D.G.E. defense system can be used to slow down time and reduce damage.
Between missions, players can upgrade their weapons and equipment, as well as customize the appearance of their mech.
