Just Dance 2014 is the fifth main game in the dancing series where players are rated for their ability to mimic dance routines to popular songs. For PlayStation 3, the whole body movement is analyzed through the PlayStation Eye (optional) and PlayStation Camera respectively along with the Move peripheral, which is optional. For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, up to four players can dance simultaneously with up to six for Xbox One. The game also supports consoles with a microphone, including karaoke mode.
The classic free-dance mode returns, as well as a new on-stage mode where one player does a lead role while two others do backup routines. Another mode introduces ghost recordings of routines from prior games to compete. The party master mode is exclusive to Xbox 360, Wii U, and Xbox One and builds on the previous version's pupper master mode. It allows one player to change the moves, songs, and rules for up to four players on the fly.
The game features various modes, including the world dance floor mode for online multiplayer, where global leaderboards are kept. The Just Dance DJ mode is exclusive to Xbox One and PS4 versions, allowing a player to manipulate beats between songs in endless mode. By progressing through the game, new mash-up battles modes and alternate song variations are unlocked.
The base game contains around 50 tracks with regional variations based on consoles. Some notable artists included are Lady Gaga, Robin Thicke, Ke$ha, Robbie Williams, Pitbull, PSY, ABBA, Daft Punk, Katy Perry, One Direction, Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, will.i.am, Jason Derulo, Rihanna, and Jessie J.
Additional content can be unlocked through DLC, alternative routines, and additional songs. Certain features can also be unlocked using in-game mojo points currency.
