Just Dance 4 , the fourth main game in the dancing series, lets players be rated for their ability to mimic dance routines to popular songs. On the Wii platform, movement is tracked through the Wii Remote, while on Xbox 360 it's with the Kinect peripheral and PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Eye camera with optional support for the Move peripheral.
Compared to the previous version, Just Dance 4 has removed difficulty levels and the option to quickly dance through a song. It also lost game modes like Simon says, medley, speed shuffle, playlists, just create, and 8-player. You can't create custom dance routines either. Instead, you have dance quests with six missions for a single song. Completing these missions earns mojo points, the in-game currency. On all platforms except Xbox 360, players can create dancer cards to showcase favourite songs, best scores, and completed challenges.
Just Dance 4 has new game modes like battle mode and dance mash-up mode. The sweat mode from the previous game has been revamped into a fitness-like program that focuses on calories burned during each routine, which can last up to 40 minutes with warm-up and cool-down moments. There's also an autodance feature for platforms with a camera that records gameplay and mixes it into a video.
The Wii U version of Just Dance 4 has the exclusive puppet master mode, where the GamePad is used to manipulate visuals, playlists, and moves on the fly for up to four players. You can also use it to write on the screen and record pictures and videos. The base game contains around 50 tracks, with variations based on the platform and region. Some of the included artists are Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Rihanna, Jessie J, Flo Rida, Carrie Underwood, Elvis Presley, Ricky Martin, Nelly Furtado, Rick Astley, Britney Spears, Pink, and Skrillex.
