The ability to choose a mate and have children is back, but with new options like pairing people who aren't well-suited for each other, which can create weaker characters. The battle system has changed, now combining elements of Trinity Universe and Cross Edge. You can assign certain party member attacks to different buttons and use different formations and special skills from individual characters. All battles are turn-based, shown through a mix of high-definition sprites and 3D polygonal enemies.

Some mini-games are included, which you can play with the Playstation 3 controller. These include some unusual activities, such as applying oil to female characters.
