Players take on an on-rails experience, guiding themselves through environments while fighting enemies. To defeat them, players must press corresponding note sequences as quickly as possible, with accuracy also being a factor. Mini-bosses and bosses use timed measures, similar to Guitar Hero, requiring the player to play in sync with scrolling notes.

One of the standout features is the drop-in two-player co-op mode, where players can use guitars, drums, or a combination of both. This competitive co-op allows for separate scores, and players can steal kills by completing untimed measures before their opponent. If one player runs out of continues, they can donate unused continues to the fallen.
