Players can choose from various game modes, including solo play, co-op with up to six players, or competitive multiplayer with up to twelve players. To increase their chances of survival, players must earn Dosh, in-game currency that can be used to purchase armor, melee weapons, pistols, shotguns, and other equipment. As players kill Zeds, they also earn experience points toward different Perk skill trees, which grant special abilities such as increased damage or ammo capacity.
