In Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter , the player controls Sherlock Holmes as he investigates a series of cases in late 19th century London. The game is set in the same timeline as previous Frogware titles, with Holmes and Dr. Watson redesigned to look younger and more dynamic. A framing story revolves around Holmes' adoptive daughter Kate and a mysterious new neighbor.
The gameplay mechanics are similar to those of Crimes & Punishments: Sherlock Holmes , with the player searching for clues, interrogating suspects, solving mini-games, and making deductions based on found evidence. However, some mini-games have been redesigned to be more action-based or large-scale logic puzzles, which can sometimes be skipped.
Player control shifts to other characters, including Dr. Watson during puzzle sequences, Wiggins during stealth sections, and Holmes' dog Toby in tracking sequences. The game offers both 1st and 3rd person perspectives, but some sequences are forced into the 3rd person view.
