You control a clown in Magical Drop II as they grab and throw balloons. The goal is to match three balloons of the same colour or more vertically to pop them and clear the screen. You can hold multiple balloons at once and cause consecutive collisions.

The game has different modes, including Survival*, where you play until you can't keep up with the increasing speed of balloons. There's also a Puzzle mode where you have to clear a set of balloons within a time limit, and VS Mode where you duel against the CPU or another player in a split-screen match.
