Mazinger Z is set in a world where Dr. Hell's robot army has destroyed Tokyo, and only Kouji Kabuto and the giant robot Mazinger Z can stop them from taking over the entire world.
The game follows the story of Mazinger Z as it battles against Dr. Hell's robot army across various levels. Animated cutscenes between levels tell the tale of the game, bringing the animated series to life in a way that fans will recognize and appreciate.
Gameplay for Mazinger Z involves using its array of attacks, including super-powered karate moves, missiles, Breast Fire, and Rocket Punch. Special moves deplete a regenerating energy meter, but Rocket Punches can be performed at any time, although Mazinger will be unable to punch until its arms return.
The game features several types of enemies, each unique to their respective levels and hailing from the show. These include robots that fire projectiles or rush towards Mazinger Z, sometimes in tandem with other enemy robots. Defeating these enemies earns healing items and rare upgrades for Mazinger Z 's Rocket Punch.
Each level culminates in a fight against a more formidable boss robot, whose attacks pose a greater challenge than those of the preceding levels. Beating these bosses rewards players with new abilities and boosts to Mazinger Z ’s combat prowess.
