The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age game for Game Boy Advance brings together the epic story of the Lord of the Rings trilogy in a unique turn-based strategy formula. Unlike other console versions, this game lets players choose their commander from iconic characters like Aragorn and Gandalf, or even play as the dark forces of Mordor with the Witch-king or Saruman.
The player experiences over 30 battle scenarios, ranging from famous battles like Helm's Deep and the Pelennor Fields, to smaller skirmishes like Amon Hen and Osgiliath, and some hinted-at battles from the movies. In each battle, players choose their companions, including classic characters like Legolas and Gimli, as well as villains like Wormtongue and Gorbag.
Here's a twist: unlike other turn-based games, you can't move all of your units each turn. Instead, the board is divided into three "flanks," and your hero in each flank generates the command points you use to move units in that flank. This means good leaders like Aragorn may have more command points than Gimli, but will need to rely on his combat skills to make up for it.
