Mario Sports Mix is a collection of over-the-top arcade-style sports simulations based on characters from the Mario franchise and other Square Enix properties. The games include volleyball, hockey, dodgeball, and basketball in various versions. The characterisations are also influenced by some of the base classes from Final Fantasy and the Slime from Dragon Quest.
The gameplay involves competing against each other or against AI opponents in different game modes such as Exhibition and Tournament. There are power-up items that give advantages to the team that attains them, and each game has its own unique rules and challenges.
Mario Sports Mix also includes several party games based on the mechanics of each sport. These include Smash Skate, Bob-omb Dodge, Feed Petey, and Harmony Hustle. Players can choose to play these mini-games as a standalone experience or combine them with the main sports games.
Mario Sports Mix was released for the Wii on 07 February 2011.
