Splatoon

The gameplay involves shooting ink, which colours the environment and allows players to move quickly as a squid by transforming. In squid form, characters cannot shoot, but move quicker, can hide, and scale vertical surfaces. Enemies also shoot ink in a different colour that slows down characters in regular form, requiring them to paint it over with their own colour.

The game is set in Inkopolis, a main hub offering access to different battles and character upgrades for aesthetic customization. Players earn experience and currency by participating in battles and can level up and buy new items. The single-player campaign involves retrieving the Zapfish from the Octarians, with 27 levels completed in a series of challenges.

The game supports local one-on-one multiplayer matches in the Battle Dojo and online multiplayer games with ranked battles and Turf War mode. Regular battles involve covering more of the map in the team's colour before time runs out, while ranked matches have Splat Zones, a King of the Hill-style game type.

The GamePad can be used to access a map, instantly warp to teammates' locations, or assist with aiming. The game also incorporates Miiverse for posting messages and Amiibo for unlocking additional missions and equipment.
