The story of Ryse: Son of Rome focuses on the life of Marius Titus, as he tells the Emperor Nero about his experiences, beginning with the murder of his family by barbarian bandits, and his quest for revenge while serving the Roman Army.
During gameplay, the player takes control of Marius in third person perspective, fighting Barbarians and issuing orders to other Roman soldiers. The combat is sword-based, focusing on reflex-based quick time events (QTEs).
Ryse: Son of Rome 's multiplayer mode is called Gladiator: Blood-Brothers mode , a cooperative-themed mode where several players compete in gladiatorial challenges in the Colosseum. As progress and experience points are earned, gold can be spent on elixirs, weapons, and armor for multiplayer characters. Players can also create custom challenges.
Ryse: Son of Rome was released on the Xbox One console on 22 November 2013.
