Down Load , released on June 22nd, 1990 for the PC Engine, is a side-scrolling shooter that follows the story of Syd, a cyber diver tasked with investigating his missing friend Ohala. Deva, another close companion, has been arrested while trying to uncover the truth, and it's up to Syd to solve the case in both the real world and the virtual reality.
Down Load offers a mix of action-packed gameplay as Syd controls his flying bike, navigating through stages that combine real-world locations with abstract computer-like worlds. Before each mission, players can choose from two main weapons: a vulcan cannon for spreading fire in multiple directions or a laser beam for powerful, focused fire. Secondary weapons include homing missiles, bombs, and shields, all with limited ammo/energy.
The game features a range of enemies, from geometrical figures to computer-related objects, which are guarded by boss enemies that employ various shooting patterns to stop the hero. Anime-style cutscenes advance the story between missions, keeping players engaged in the thrilling narrative of Syd's quest for justice.

From the moment you purchased your PC-Engine software "DOWN LOAD" from NEC Avenue, you already have happiness in your hands.
So that this happiness does not escape from you, please read this Instruction Manual carefully and use it in the correct manner.
Care Instructions

It is a precision device, so avoid use or storage under extreme temperature/humidity conditions, direct sunlight, and strong shocks.

Do not bend the card.
•
Do not touch the terminal part (the metal part of the card) or get it dirty with water, etc.
•
Do not blow into it with a squeegee, pliers, etc.
•
For the health of your eyes, please play as far from the TV screen as possible (approximately 2 meters).
•
If playing for a long time, take a short break of 5-10 minutes every hour for your health.

Story of DOWN LOAD
On the verge of the 22nd century, nations went bankrupt economically, and the Earth was managed by several giant corporations. Each corporation achieved world unification through computer networks.
On the other hand, they developed the technology to "download" human brain information into neuro memory, liberating brilliant brains from biological "death". Humanity obtained immortality in the computer. But at the same time, the terrible wildness lurking in the "download" began to move.
Weapon Reselection
After the visual scene ends, the weapon selection screen will appear.
•
Use the up and down direction keys to select a weapon.
•
Press the I button to confirm.
•
Once selection is complete, press the RUN button to start the next stage.
HUD Indicators
•
Weapon: Displays the name and remaining count of the sub-weapon currently in use.
•
Speed: Indicates the current speed of the ship. Speed can be adjusted in 4 stages.
•
Score: Displays the player's current score.
When the 'Panic' indicator is displayed, or if you take damage after a miss, your ship will explode.
Sub-Weapons
•
I-ther: Homing missile. Can be equipped up to a maximum of 96 shots.
•
Crusher: Attracts enemy bullets in front of Sid, and when it explodes, it draws enemies in.
•
Energy Key: Withstands 15 points of damage. The direction changes with the I button.
Stage 1
Cyber Turbo Sid, with combat abilities within the virtual space. Immediately after accepting a commission from the 'Company' (equivalent to the current 'Government'), he becomes a criminal with false information and is chased by the police. Moreover, the police's aim was not 'arrest' but 'elimination'.
Stage 2
To rescue his partner Diva who was taken away, Sid heads to the police station. It is a fierce battle with police robots running wild.
Stage 3
To find the enemy's main body, Sid psychodines into the police computer. In the virtual space, an unknown virus attacks Sid!
Stage 4
Diva falls into the enemy's hands again. Chasing her, Sid faces a military robot division. Will he attack them?
Stage 5
The stage is an underground military fortress. A dark cannon shot out by the heavy Katapult of the military faction that captured Diva. Robot unit Gundee blocks the way. The enemy is desperate too!
Stage 6
Back to the virtual space via psychodyne. While evading virus attacks, what did Sid see at the center of the network?
