Disney Infinity 2.0 is the sequel to Disney Infinity , introducing a new generation of characters as action-adventure game. Players place figurines on the infinity base with a USB connection, which are then used in-game and level up. The figurines can be purchased separately and support multiple platforms. There are two main groups of characters: Marvel Super Heroes and Disney Originals. gameplay is split into two modes - play set mode (story) and Toy Box 2.0. In the story part, players progress through levels using different characters with unique moves and abilities. As characters level up, new skills become available. The Toy Box mode allows players to create their own games by placing objects, designing scenery, and sharing creations with others. It also supports local and online multiplayer.
The game comes in two console versions: Disney Infinity: Edition 2.0 for the PS3 and Disney Infinity 2.0: Play Without Limits for Windows and Xbox One. The PC version is free-to-play, but does not support the infinity base for physical content. Instead, all additional content needs to be purchased as a download. Players who own Disney Infinity on other platforms can transfer their content to the PC version.
The game has several unique features, such as power discs that provide in-game boosts and Toy Box game discs that introduce new toys and textures. The game also supports backwards compatibility with all figurines and power discs from the first version, but limited to the Toy Box mode. A limited amount of early buyers received free Toy Box game discs for the PS3 and Wii U versions.
