Object of the Game
The object of the game is to reach the core of Shadow's lair and destroy him. You must explore the various levels, accumulate points, bonuses, and extra lives.
To overcome obstacles and defeat Shadow, familiarize yourself with all 128 rooms. Retrieve the correct colored keys for all passages to gain entry from one level to another.
Mastering Shamus requires long and arduous training. Sharpen your reflexes to deal with the incredible speed and viciousness of Shadow and his henchmen.
Scoring
You receive one point for each enemy killed and ten points for clearing a room. "Mysteries?" will score anywhere from 20 to 80 points.
No points are awarded for stunning Shadow, drinking potions, collecting keys, or opening doors. Points for killing robots or clearing rooms are only given the first time you enter a room. If you leave and return, no points will be given for these actions. Points for "Mystery ?" are always awarded.
Scoring high will eliminate more of Shadow's clones at the end of the game.
Keys and Keyholes
Each level of the lair contains various numbered keys, paired with matching keyholes. Shamus picks up keys by touching them.
As keys are touched, they are displayed in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. When encountering a keyhole of the matching number, Shamus merely makes contact with it, and the wall retracts, permitting him to proceed. If the wall does not drop, Shamus has not yet obtained the correctly numbered key.
Extra Lives
Your remaining lives are displayed in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. If you encounter a bubbling bottle in a room, touch it to obtain an extra life.
You may accumulate as many extra lives as your skill allows.
Mystery
By passing over these pulsing question marks, you will either summon Shadow, get an extra life, or receive points.
Pod Rooms
These rooms exist in another dimension. When an Ion-Shiv passes through the opening and hits the suspended object, the barrier will drop, and Shadow's robot guards will be immediately summoned.
